THE ROOTS OF TRUST

The relationships we have with some of our fincas are about much more than work. For example, hanging in the Brazilian finca Guaxupè are black-and-white photographs showing Giuseppe Lavazza selecting coffees at the local plantation. This bond of trust and friendship have lasted for decades.

SELECTING COFFEE BEANS

"1895 coffees come from unique terroirs, which often differ hugely from one another: for this reason, skillful roasting first requires a “clear picture” of the beans. In Factory 1895, an optical sorter is used for this purpose. It checks the colour of individual coffee beans, then separates them with a gentle puff of air based on the results."
